Edward VIII Coins

Edward VIII, later Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor (Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David; 23 June 1894 – 28 May 1972), was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Empire, and Emperor of India, from 20 January 1936 until his abdication on 11 1936.

No coins of Edward VIII were issued for currency within the United Kingdom bearing his name and portrait. The Royal Mint had commenced work on a new coinage prior to the king's abdication and various patterns were made. Only a small number of sets were struck although none were issued for sale and only one complete set is known in private hands.
